Love, True Love

Love…
…that fills the heart leaves no room for question. Uncertainty is a construct of the mind. True love doesn’t leave space for doubt. A filled heart laughs in ridicule when questioned.

From a letter by Victor Hugo in 1821 to Adele Foucher
a_heart_full_of_roses_by_fuchsphotoEDITWhen two souls,
which have sought each other for,
however long in the throng,
have finally found each other…
a union, fiery and pure
as they themselves are…
begins on earth
and continues forever in heaven.
This union is love, true love…
a religion, which deifies the loved one,
whose life comes
from devotion and passion,
and for which the greatest sacrifices
are the sweetest delights.
This is the love
which you inspire in me…

No Greater Gift

Love…
…is engraved on a heart that has known great love. Whether together or apart, separated by miles, years or even by death, no amount of effort can wipe away the inscription that love made. Life offers no greater gift.

Heartfelt quote by an anonymous author
you_light_up_my_heart_by_neonflamesFrom every human being
there rises a light
that reaches
straight to heaven.
And when two souls
that are destined
to be together
find each other,
their streams of light
flow together, and
a single brighter light
goes forth from
their united being.

The Fifth Fundemental Power

Love…
… is an eternal component of nature; a force strong like Earth, Air, Fire, and Water and sometimes stronger than all four classical elements combined. Love is the fifth fundamental power on which everything is based.

From “Guitar Highway Rose” by New Zealander Brigid Lowry
five elements 02…they do not kiss
but they both want to
instead their feet touch
and so do their arms
it is electric magic
their tiny arm hairs tingling
happily lying together
the sun warming them
watching sky through
green-leafed gum branch
close enough to hear
each other breathe
sweet togetherness
this lazy lying down
dance of love.

Neither Created Nor Destroyed.

Love…
…lasts. It endures. It simply is. Like all energy, that of the heart can be neither created nor destroyed. With its wonder and beauty, love can only morph, grow or change form.

“Ebb Tide” by American poet Brian Burke
light-through-clouds-2You’re the gentle breeze
that soothes my heart
And through my soul
your ripples pour.
Within my mind
the storm
clouds part
As you ebb
upon my
body’s shore.

As Food Is To the Body

Love…
…can paint full color over monochrome and drown self-doubt with belief. It can replace frail vulnerability with strength and restless thought with clarity of purpose. Love is the re-shaper of lost hope and restorer of faded faith. As food is to the body, love is to the soul.

“He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven” by William Butler Yeats
Notebook and Paper HeartHad I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I,
being poor,
have only dreams;
I have spread my dreams
under your feet;
Tread softly
because you tread
on my dreams.

The Flower of My Life

Love…
…is tested by time. Like water, some evaporates over time till little to nothing remains. Then there is love that flows onward keeping its depth and fullness like a spring fed pond ever flowing fresh, strong and inviting.

From a Robert Browning letter to Elizabeth Barrett Dec. 31, 1845
victorian_couple_20_by_digimaree-d4ystqk…this is my first song,
my true song –
this love I bear you –
I look into my heart
and then let it go forth
under that name – love.
I am more than mistrustful
of many other feelings in me:
they are not earnest enough;
so far true enough –
but this is all the flower of my life
which you call forth
and which lies at your feet.

At One With Each Other

Love…
…is deep and true when one can realize being daily with the person of their affection is not necessary for love to survive. To bear that weight in one’s heart gladly at a distance is a certain mark of a mature and healthy love.

Victorian novelist Mary Anne Evans under pen name George Eliot

greater thing

than to feel
that they
are joined…
to be at one
with each other
in silent
unspeakable
memories.

A Sort of Devine Accident

Love…
…in its truest form is not bound by the passage of time; much of what once was felt within, remains. Years temper the treasures of the heart and the object of one’s emotion does not need a present tense to continue to be loved.

English Novelist, Critic and Dramatist, Seymour Walpole
romantic couple walking awayThe most wonderful
of all things in life,
I believe, is the discovery
of another human being
with whom one’s relationship
has a glowing depth,
beauty and joy…
This inner progressiveness of love
between two human beings
is a most marvelous thing.
It cannot be found by looking for it
or by passionately wishing for it.
It is a sort of Divine accident.

King and Queen of All Emotions

Love…
… has no envy of other emotions. It is King and Queen of all feelings. Hate has no chance to survive in its presence. Selfishness melts away. Love is pure truth invisible; absolute power unseen.

Irish writer and poet Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde

Hastens My Heart

Love…
…brings comfort that soothes; consolation that calms; reassurance that cheers; and encouragement that heartens. It is the oldest remedy known to human-kind and relieves pain and anguish today just as well as it did hundreds, even thousands of years ago.

American romantic writer, Robert Sexton

A part of you
remains with me
And warms the places
your hands have touched
And hastens my heart
for your return.
