Before I Saw Your Face

I remember…
…just before we went to sleep, you’d put your arm around me and hold me against you. That was the safest I have ever felt.

From “The Years” by Sara Teasdale
Tonight I close my eyes and see
A strange procession passing me-
The years before I saw you face
Go by me with wishful grace
They pass, the sensitive shy years,
As one who strives to dance, half blind with tears

One Heart and One Life

I remember…
…you and I singing horribly off-key the first five lines of “You Are My Sunshine” together.  You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray, you’ll never know dear how much I love you, so please don’t take my sunshine away.

Elizabeth Barrett to Robert Browning August 26, 1846
“…How I wish for two hearts to love you with, and two lives to give to you, and two souls to bear the weight worthily of all you have given to me.  But if one heart and one life will do… they are yours… I can not give them again…”
