Trying to Let You Go

I remember…
…so much and am reminded every day of you by something I come across, by noticing a place we went or a song on the radio.  I’m trying to let you go, but so far I can’t.
From the John Waite song “Missing you”
Every time I think of you
I always catch my breath.
And I’m still standing here
And you’re miles away
And I’m wondering why you left.

Never Forget

I remember…
… you telling me you loved me with all your heart but wanted a divorce because you could forgive me, but could never forget.

Henry Ward Beecher (1813 –1887)
I can forgive,
but I cannot forget,
is only another way of saying,
I will not forgive.
Forgiveness ought to be like a cancelled note
torn in two,
and burned up,
so that it never can be shown against one.

A Tear in the Ocean

I remember…
…how much you like chocolate malted milkshakes made with vanilla ice cream with extra malt.

Author Unknown
I dropped a tear
in the ocean.
The day you find it
is the day
I will stop
missing you.

Why Did You Let Her Leave?

I remember…
…how much you like fruit rollups, Rice Krispie treats and most of all, dunking Oreo’s in milk.

By a writer identified only as “Sarah”
If I ask you in years to come
When you’re old and grey
What did you do with your life my dear’
What do you think you might say?

You see, I know the answer
Though you would never admit
That your life will end broken hearted
Of a love lost too scared to commit.

You loved her so much
Why did you let her leave?
She loved you back
But you would never believe.
But that is your future
You are still in your past
Grab her and hold her
This love is meant to last.

My Love is Lost

I remember…
…us being lazy on Sunday’s and you spending all afternoon leisurely reading the paper.

From the book “My Love is Lost” published privately by Judy Garland
My love is lost.
I held it as a handful of sand,
clenching my fist to hold it there.

Yet, bit by bit, it slipped through my straining fingers.
Now, nothing but memories of every smile, every kiss,
and, above all, every word.

For ’twas not into my ear you whispered
but into
my heart.

‘Twas not my lips you kissed, but my soul.

Very Heavy Heart

 I remember…
…how you  knew all those ways off the beaten path to get around town with your “super secret shortcuts”.

Tsarina Alexandra to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia December 30, 1915
Off you go again alone and it’s with a very heavy heart I part from you. No more kisses and tender caresses for ever so long — I want to bury myself in you, hold you tight in my arms, make you feel the intense love of mine.
